Are you looking for someone to manage a special outreach project? Do you want to maximize the appeal of an annual report or get your publications program noticed? Do you need a writer with a broad base of creative skills to attend to the details of editorial and design?
You've come to the right place. I offer individuals and organizations a variety of research, marketing communications, and publications management skills. I apply them with the target audience in mind and incorporate the elements of style that make your special communications projects effective public outreach tools.
Consulting
Quality marketing advice is the result of business education and nearly 25 years of product, brand, and communications management experience. I've worked closely with local media outlets to place feature stories, announcements, and calendar items as well as paid advertising. I can develop graphic designs and take photographs to meet the needs of most clients.
Recently, I have applied the skills of a marketing copywriter and graphic designer to many informational signs and communications materials for parks, history groups, and local governments. See examples on my portfolio page.
Writing
In 2003, I published my first novel, Waterfront Property. I enjoy kayaking, and was able to combine this with my interest in nature in a novella, Up a Creek (2004). I have written three books about Tidewater Virginia counties for Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series: Gloucester County (July 2006), Mathews County (November 2007), and James City County (March 2009). I've written many local, regional, national, and international magazine, newspaper, and journal reports and stories since 1976 and Web site content since 1998.
I continue to research and write, and post a lot of my material in blogs and with online magazines. If you enjoy reading my blogs or online articles, please visit my advertisers.
Current Clients and Causes
I develop and promote outdoor programs for New Quarter Park, a York County park near Williamsburg, Virginia. Programs include Walk & Talks, Bird Watching, Kayaking, and much more. Since working with New Quarter, I have become a Chesapeake Bay Foundation VoiCeS volunteer and a certified Virginia Master Naturalist with the Historic Rivers Chapter. I raise oysters for CBF's oyster restoration program at New Quarter Park.
May I Help You?
I'm always looking for interesting projects. In particular, I enjoy managing Virginia history and environmental information outreach projects and local history publications. Examples are linked from my portfolio page.
